The Loving Cup

The Loving Cup

The loving cup is a handsome two handled vessel of silver with cover, extravagantly decorated with flowers, scrolls and towers.

Inscribed on a scutcheon on the bowl is “Presented to the Corporation of Calne by the Earl of Shelburne, November 1860”.

It stands 11½ inches high to the top of the cover and bears the Newcastle mark (3 castles) and was made in the 1730's or 40's.
