| North Wiltshire District Council The Council is concerned about: The control of stray dogs under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Noise Control under the EPA 1990 (barking dogs and other animal noise) Dangerous Dogs Act 1989 Dogs Fouling of Land Act 1996. Including bin installations, dog fouling notices and 'poop scoop' bags. Animal Boarding Establishment Act 1963 Wiltshire County Council Trading Standards (Ext Link) Officers are given the responsibility to monitor the whole of the food chain from "plough to plate" and from "farm to fork" to ensure that foodstuffs are of a good quality and that they are properly labelled. Provision of proper labelling enables consumers to make an informed choice. Of course, Animal Health and Welfare has always been an important issue, but never more since the Foot and Mouth epidemic hit not just Wiltshire, but the whole of the UK. In all, Wiltshire had 9 confirmed incidents of Foot and Mouth within its County boundaries RSPCA If you suspect that an animal of any kind is being subjected to any form or cruelty then the only organisation that can legally deal with this is the Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) (Ext Link) to contact the National Cruelty Helpline call 0870 5555 999 DEFRA Local Authorities has formal links with the Department of Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) (Ext Link) in enforcing national legislation governing the health and welfare of farm animals. This includes responding to complaints of neglect or ill treatment of livestock on farms, during transport, at markets, etc. |
