Workforce in North Wiltshire
The District has an increasingly skilled workforce which is academically and vocationally qualified well in excess of the national average. The Council works with other organisations such as the Learning and skills Council (LSC) and Wiltshire College in identifying skills required to meet the changing demands of business.
22% of the population of North Wiltshire are qualified to Level 4/5 (degree level). This is slightly above the national average (Cencus 2001).
42% of 19+ year olds undertaking workbased learning programmes were successful (LSC data). 83% of the population of working age were economically active in 2005 (Intelligence Network data).
To develop a skilled, motivated and adaptable workforce with the skills to meet current and future business needs is an objective of the Wiltshire Strategy Partnership.
The Regional Economic Strategy 2006-2015 recognises that people need to have the skills and adaptability to underpin a modern and inclusive economy. In an economy that has to compete world wide and which seeks to create advantage through the application of innovation and technology, knowledge based and technical skills and an adaptable approach to learning and working are critical issues for the region.
