Young People’s Council 2005 Achievements- a celebration of things so far!
The group were given a choice of cards with key achievements on the back and asked to draw the event/meeting/achievement in 1 minute for the rest of the group to guess. The issue was then examined through the following three questions.
1. Why was it important?
- Website – raises profile/gets people involved/feedback/keep updated/dates and information
- Freshers Fair – consultation/getting people involved/raising profile/generated interest in joining YPC/sweets!
- LSP – mixing with important people/actions taken forward/raised profile of young people and their involvement/networking
- Community Project – changing perceptions/links to the police/opinions aired
- Planning meeting – increased understanding of planning/allowed you to express opinions
- Residential – make friends/started projects/completed terms of reference
2. What did I learn?
- Website – Skills for Rich
- Freshers Fair – importance of speaking to other young people/learnt how to use condoms
- LSP – Speaking to people gets you to the right places
- Community Project
- Planning – Radical models built/idea of planning
- Residential – wrap Sam up in cotton wool/team building/learnt about economy

In 2006 we would like our greatest achievement to be……..
Sam, Tom and Jess – Getting more people onto YPC to make a difference
Bex and Anne – Develop a strong working relationship with the police and co-run an event with them
Chris – To help the police understand young people better
Rich – Raising profile of young people
Neil – To make young people seem like care bears
I personally commit to? To make this happen I will…….
Sam – Attend all meetings where possible, draft police letters, shutting up a little bit
Tom – Encourage young people to join YPC, not to talk so much, to be nice to Rich
Jess – Encourage young people to join YPC
Bex – Taking a role in making words into actions
Anne – Be less quiet, missing orchestra to come to the YPC
Chris – Time investment
Rich – Any free time I can to website to make it better, help with other things if possible, try and be nice to everyone
Neil – If needed I will come back to help with big events
