Police Community Support Officers

Neighbourhood Policing Team

Your Police, Your Community, Our Commitment”

The Government set out plans to deliver neighbourhood policing teams (NPTs) to every area by 2008.

The aim of Neighbourhood Policing is to have a policing team dedicated to solving issues in the local community. The Neighbourhood Policing Teams will be working closely with partner agencies, such as local authorities and housing associations and the community to identify issues that need to be improved within a neighbourhood.

Neighbourhood Policing means the community will know who their Neighbourhood Policing Team is, how to contact them and what they are doing to address the local crime and disorder priorities.

A Neighbourhood Policing team is made up of a Community Beat Manager, who is supported by Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), community wardens, special constables, volunteers and partners, all working together in partnership. The Community Beat Manager will be committed to the role for at least two years.

When will this happen?

Neighbourhood Policing aims to give people:

AccessIt will be easy to contact your Neighbourhood Policing Team and tell them about your local community issues. Leaflets will be posted through letterboxes when teams are set up and begin work in your area. These leaflets will contain an email address and contact telephone number for your Community Beat Manager. PCSOs will be patrolling your area everyday. Why not speak to them and tell them about any issues that concern you

InfluenceYou can influence what happens in your area by attending the public meetings held in your neighbourhood. Tell the Neighbourhood Policing Team what you want improved or the problems that need to be solved. They will listen and try to help improve your quality of life.
InvolvementPolice and partners agencies will work together to tackle local problems. It is vital that you work with them to improve the quality of life in your area. The partnership can tackle issues such as anti-social behaviour, graffiti, vandalism and other problems.

Results & FeedbackOnce issues have been raised with a member of the Neighbourhood Policing Team, you will be kept updated with what has been achieved and whether the problem(s) have been solved.
