Introduction to Crime and Disorder Strategy for North Wiltshire

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, requires that every three years the North Wiltshire District Council, Wiltshire County Council and the Wiltshire Constabulary audit crime and disorder within the area are to set a three year strategy. The work is carried out together with partner agencies that provide services to the public and other interested parties. These include the health authority agencies, National Probation Service Wiltshire and a large number of public, private and voluntary sector organisations including parish councils.

This, the second audit, it contains information not only about crime and levels of disorder, but includes other information about the underlying causes of crime. The views of members of the public and the business community was also gathered in a variety of ways. It also details the progress made against the first strategy.

Further information was supplied by the agencies working within the community and this analysis was complimented by supporting countywide and national data research.

Following the audit, a draft strategy was drawn up and widely circulated for consultation, in order to ensure that key priorities were tackled. These pages give a summary of the strategy and captures the key points of it.
