Animal Licensing
What type of premises need to be licensed?
Pet Shops, Boarding Kennels, Catteries, Circuses, Zoos and Riding Establishments all require licensing from the local authority and are inspected on an annual basis.
Why do we licence?
To ensure that animals are kept in accommodation suitable in terms of size, construction, temperature, lighting, ventilation and cleanliness.
To ensure that animals are adequately supplied with suitable food, drink, and bedding material.
To ensure that animals are adequately exercised.
To ensure that all reasonable precautions are taken to prevent and control the spread among animals of infectious or contagious diseases.
To ensure that appropriate steps will be taken for the protection of the animals in case of fire or other emergency.
When we can get involved?
All animal licences are issued on an annual basis, an Environmental Health Officer visits each licensed premises before renewal of a licence to ensure that all conditions are being adhered to.
If you are concerned about the condition in pet shops, boarding kennels, catteries, circuses, zoos or riding establishments, contact the Environmental Health Department on (01249) 706555 who will investigate to ensure that licence conditions are being adhered to
