Straying Dogs

If you have found a straying dog, or lost your own dog, please click on the following link for further advice:

Have you found a stray dog or lost your own dog?

Environmental Health Services has a responsibility to collect stray dogs. If this happens you will be fined.

The Control of Dogs Order allows Animal Control Officers to:-
  • seize any dog found unaccompanied on a highway or in a public place
  • arrange for seized dogs to be taken to a kennels and not returned to their owners until expenses are paid to cover kennelling, and a fine is paid for allowing the dog to stray
  • recommend prosecution of owners for allowing dogs loose without a collar and tag giving the name and address of the owner
You must not let your dog foul a public place or footpath, nor should it be allowed on designated roads without a lead.

You should keep your dog under control at all times. Keep your garden gates locked and do not allow your dog to roam free. It could foul land, worry animals or cause a road accident. You could be personally prosecuted for allowing this to happen.
