More than One Person Resident
Discount can sometimes apply where there is more than one adult in the household as some groups of people are not taken into account when assessing the number resident.
To decide whether you may qualify for a discount you should:
a) count up the number of people over 18 living in your home, and
b) take away from that number anyone listed in the groups below
If the number you are left with is 1 (or none) a discount may apply.
Example 1: There are 2 adults resident, one of whom is a full time student. In this case the full time student WILL NOT be counted and there will be only one adult considered resident. Discount of 25% will apply.
Example 2: There are 3 adults resident, one of whom is a YT trainee. In this case discount WILL NOT apply as there will STILL BE TWO people considered resident even though the YT trainee is not counted.

Disabled Person Reduction
Where there is a disabled person resident in the dwelling it may be possible to reduce the amount of Council Tax payable. There must be either:
a second kitchen or bathroom, oran additional room (other than a kitchen or bathroom) which is mainly used by the disabled person
OR
enough space for the disable person to use a wheelchair indoors.
If this room or space is essential or of major importance to the wellbeing of the disabled person then an allowance can be made by reducing the Band on which the Council Tax is charged to the next band below.
For example, a property assessed to Band D will be charged the Council Tax for Band C.
To claim this reduction you should print off the application form, complete and sign it and return it to the Council Tax.
