What am I paying for?

Council Tax is a form of local taxation.
It partly funds services provided by WCC, NWDC, the Police Authority the Fire Authority and Parish and Town Councils.
It is not for any specific service and payment cannot be withheld if a particular service is not adequate.
WCC pay for Education, Social Services, Highways (see leaflet page 21 - 36)
The Police receive approx 35% of the cost of policing from Council Taxpayers. (See leaflet pages 43).
NWDC pay for Housing, Recreation and Tourism, Environmental Health, Refuse and Recycling, Planning and Economic Development. (See page 5 onwards)
