Overview and Scrutiny Task Groups

The Overview & Scrutiny Committee has the power to set up Task Groups to investigate issues of concern in greater detail.

If the Committee considers that there is a policy which is not serving the best interests of the community, a service that is not performing well or an issue which is having a considerable impact on the area then they can undertake an in-depth review of the matter.

The Committee and Task Groups have the authority to ask for the views of Council Officers and the Executive Members about why decisions have been made and why any problems might have occurred. Overview & Scrutiny Members can also ask for the views and advice of other organisations who have an interest in the issue and local people who use or are affected by the service or policy. Once they have all the information needed, the Task Group can then put its recommendations to the Overview & Scrutiny Committee who will then make its report to the Executive or the Full Council.
