Annual Canvass

Every August/September time, each property in Wiltshire will receive a Register of Electors form. This form is used to update the information we have about who is registered to vote at the property.

You need to be included if you are:
  • 18 and over
  • British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union Citizens
  • 16/17 years old (so that you are eligible to vote as soon as you turn 18)
  • Living at an address in Wiltshire on the 15th October.
You must return your form by law and failure to do so, or to give false information, could result in a £1000 fine.

You should not assume because you were registered last year you will be registered this year, new regulations that are in force mean that if you do not return your form within two consecutive years your names will be removed. If you aren't registered not only will you not be able to vote, you may also find that you are refused credit or loans.

This Year's Annual Canvass

The initial canvass forms are going out at the end of August.

This years form is similar to last years and we are again offering telephone and internet registration as well as the traditional method of returning your form by post. If there are no changes to the form replying via telephone or internet registration services saves the Council money as postage and processing costs are greatly reduced.

If we don't receive a response to the inital forms then reminders will be going out early October.   Other than having the word 'Reminder' stamped across the middle these forms are exactly the same as the initial forms and the telephone and internet registration services are still available.

Canvassers will call at any property we do not have a response from following the reminder forms going out, they have from 24 October until 24 November to obtain the necessary information.

The telephone and internet registration services will be available until the end of November.
