General and Local Elections
District and Parish Elections
District and Parish elections occur every four years in North Wiltshire, the next being due in May 2011.
County Council Elections
County Council elections also occur every four years. The next election is due to be held in 2009.
Parliamentary Elections (General Elections)
Parliamentary elections (usually known as General Elections) do not have a fixed term, but must be held within five years. The precise timing of Parliamentary elections is usually a tactical matter, with the party in government requesting the Queen to dissolve Parliament and order an election. The last Parliamentary election was on 5 May 2005.
European Elections
European elections happen every five years. These are unusual in the UK in that they are the only elections on the UK mainland to be declared usuing proportional representation, with seven MEP's representing the whole of the South West constituency. The next European election will be held in 2009.
