Do I need a poll card to vote?

No. The poll card is simply a courtesy card to tell you where your polling station is, when the polling station will be open, and also what electoral area is being contested, eg which county division or District ward.

However, the poll cards are produced from the data which is contained in the register. If you are not on the register you will not be able to vote, so it might be worth contacting the Elections Helpdesk (Tel 01249 706596) to find out whether your poll card has simply gone astray, or whether there is a more serious underlying problem.

Possible reasons why you might not have a poll card:

You are not on the register (there are a number of deadlines regulating when you can be added to the register if there has been a mistake)

The card has gone astray in the post

There is no election in your area (some councils elect a third of the council at a time, but North Wiltshire elects all councillors every four years)

There were not enough candidates to require an election, and those that did stand have been elected unopposed
