How do I get a postal vote?
You should ask your Electoral Registration Officer to send you a form or download from this website by clicking on the link below, which you must complete and return before the statutory dates in the election timetable. For a permanent arrangement you do not have to wait for an election to be called, and can apply at any time, and we would suggest the earlier the better.
Ballot papers are sent out a few days before an election, and if you are only going away for a short time, you might need to think carefully where you are likely to be when the ballot papers are sent out. For example you might be away on polling day itself, but not leaving home until a couple of days before polling day, in which case you might prefer to have your papers sent to your home address. Postal ballot papers must be received by the Returning Officer by no later than the close of poll.
