In Calne
High Street
£130,000 works to resurface the High Street in Calne with stone paving and setts were completed in June 1999. The works were associated to pedestrianisation of the High Street, and the northern end was reorganised to provide disabled parking, loading and bus lay-bys.
Market Hill
£120,000 works to provide a landscaped extension to the Town Gardens within Market Hill were completed in June 2000.
The Strand
Subsequent phases of work to firstly kerb the new junction layout in the Strand and then stone pave the significantly increased pedestrian areas started in May 2000. The new junction is traffic light controlled and provides additional crossing points to complement the new buildings and increased pedestrian use of the space. The last areas of paving in front of the new library building complex and along Church Street commenced in July 2001. Church Street works were completed in Summer 2002.
Works continued during Summer 2003 to install replacement streetlighting throughout the enhanced pedestrian areas. The higher quality "white" lights have been co-ordinatedwith other furnitures to reduce clutter of unnecessary poles.
