Street signs

The District Council has a responsibility to ensure that most streets and other thoroughfares are not only named, but have a nameplate to identify them

On new schemes, the responsibility for providing the first nameplate rests with the property developer. Thereafter the nameplate will be maintained or replaced in the event of damage by the District Council.

Damaged or broken nameplates should be reported either using the County Council’s CLARENCE system on 0800 232323 or directly to the District Council on 01249 706437. Following a report, the nameplate is inspected to establish whether a repair is viable or whether a new plate is required. It can unfortunately take at least 3 months for a new nameplate to appear because nameplates are ordered in quantities of around 20 to get the best value.
