Road Closures

The District Council has the power to make Orders which provide for the temporary closure of roads in the District to enable carnival and other processions, street fairs and similar events to take place. Where such an Order has been made, it would then be an offence for any vehicle to drive along the affected roads, during the time that the closure Order is in force.

Applications for road closures should be made using the form below.  There are also guidance notes which will assist in completing the application form.  Applicants should note in particular the need to have adequate public liability insurance and to consult the occupiers of any properties directly affected by the closure.  Applicants will also be responsible for ensuring that there is adequate signage of the closure and any diversion routes.

On receipt of a completed application form, the Council will consult the police, highways and fire authorities and any other relevant organisations. If there are any objections to the application, the matter will be determined by a Council Committee. It is therefore, important that applications are received at least eight weeks in advance of the proposed date. More time may be needed if the application involves the proposed closure of a major traffic route.
