The Pound Arts Centre

The challenge for the architects at North Wiltshire District Council was to convert the Grade II listed building into a modern arts facility, whilst retaining the charm and character of the former school.

Principal Historic Buildings Officer, Mike Jackson says, "The project has been a real challenge.  Working with Posthorn Arts we have gone to great lengths to ensure that we keep the character of the buildings as they undergo a £1.2m transformation for their new role in the community."

The oldest building forms the heart of the new arts centre after being converted to a 100-seat performance space, which contains modern foldaway tiered seating, theatre lighting and a new sound system.

This is linked to the main building by a unique glass walkway, designed so it is immediately apparent where modern meets the more traditional.

This main building houses a selection of rooms that are used for community arts groups and organisations.
