Village Design Statements
Several other villages in the Malmesbury area have embarked on the production of Village Design Statements, including Great Somerford, Lea & Cleverton and Sherston (the latter to complement the previously adopted Sherston Conservation Area Statement). Elsewhere, Village Design Statements for Ashton Keynes (again, to complement the previously adopted Conservation Area Statement) and Purton are being progressed by local groups.
The Crudwell 'Conservation Area and Village Design Statement' was the first pilot study for a joint document. It was jointly funded by North Wiltshire District Council and the Countryside Agency in 2000. The draft document was endorsed by Crudwell Parish Council but has not been amended for consideration by North Wiltshire District Council.
The joint Little Somerford Conservation Area and Village Design Statement was produced during 2001 in liaison with a Local Working Group, and was adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance to the Local Plan 2001 in July 2002. The Little Somerford Conservation Area and Village Design Statement can be bought for £5.00 plus £1.50 P & P from North Wiltshire District Council.
