Change 1 Thing
One of North Wiltshire District Council’s 25 pledges for the next 18 months is to ‘help improve energy efficiency’. Please read this section to find out how you can change 1 thing to make a real difference.
Make a PledgeHow can you promise the earth?
If you are worried about the rising costs of home energy bills or the damaging effects that are being caused by climate change, then you may not be aware that you can do your bit to help.
We all use energy every day - at home, at work and travelling. Burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas generates that energy, which produce gases that damage our environment and the most harmful one is Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
The impact of climate change
People sometimes think that climate change will be positive in the UK, giving us warmer summers and milder winters, but this is not the whole picture.
This will create water shortages, forest fires and damage to wildlife and crops. There could be heavier rain and flooding in some areas caused by the melting of the polar ice caps and rising sea levels will also threaten coastal communities.
Warmer temperatures could lead to an increase in insects and pests such as fleas, wasps and rats, and see an end to Christmas trees and daffodils. Overall, the costs to the environment, the economy and people’s health will outweigh any benefits.
