The almost complete Aeropark, Lyneham

New Children's Play Area opened in Lyneham

Children in Lyneham will now be able to use their brand new play area when it opened for the first time on Saturday 17th May at 2pm with a ribbon cutting ceremony, attended by members of the community and representatives from the partnership organisations.

The ‘Aeropark’ play area, close to the centre of Lyneham, boasts a variety of innovative equipment suitable for toddlers through to teens, as well as an exciting bike trail and an outdoor fitness centre to encourage healthy lifestyles.

The park is a brand new play area and was named the ‘Aeropark’ in a competition by children from the local primary school.

The project has been a partnership between North Wiltshire District Council, Lyneham & Bradenstoke Parish Council, Community First and the Ministry of Defence.

Through Community First, ‘Viridor Credits’ distributes the Landfill Communities Fund and granted £75,000 towards the project.

North Wiltshire District Council has been helping to oversee the implementation of the project. The project is one of four that North Wiltshire District Council applied to the Lottery for funding. It is expected the project will also receive  £50,000 of Lottery funding.

The RAF Central Fund provided £15,000, and Lyneham & Bradenstoke Parish Council added the final £10,000 to bring the overall total of the project to £150,000.

District Councillor for Lyneham, Cllr Allison Bucknell, says, "My colleague, Cllr Sarah Still, and I are delighted that this scheme has come to fruition in Lyneham. This is going to be a state of the art play park, with something for all ages, designed by, with, and for the people of Lyneham, which will generate a high level of interest from surrounding areas. We really hope that we do not suffer the wanton and mindless vandalism that often happens to play areas in other parts of the district, and that this can be a shining example of how the community can love and respect their local amenities.”
