More Information on Development Control

The laws that decide when you need to apply for planning permission can be very complicated so it is a good idea to contact us to check whether you need to apply before you start work.

We can let you know whether you need to apply for Planning Permission within 10 days. Fill in and return the Do I need Planning Permission? form (pdf 96.1kb) which will give us the information that we need to establish whether permission is required. More information about the Planning System can be found by using the planning portal.

Getting planning permission means that you can do the work that is described in your application. The District Council has to decide whether the work that you want to do complies with the policies in the Structure Plan for Wiltshire and the Local Plans for the North Wiltshire District.
When we are dealing with planning applications we try to make sure that we listen to the views of local people. Consultations are an important part of the planning process.

Don't forget that you may need to apply for Building Regulation consent as well as Planning Permission for new buildings, extensions, conversions and dangerous/dilapidated or ruinous structures. Have a look at our Building Control pages for more information.
