Design & Access Statements
The purpose of a Design & Access Statement is to explain how the applicant has considered the proposal and understands what is appropriate and feasible for the site in its local context. It explains the principles that will be used to guide the future details of the scheme and therefore is particularly important for outline planning applications.
Design & Access Statement should be prepared at the start of the development process and should evolve as the scheme is defined. The Design & Access Statement is required to explain and justify the decisions made on the scheme and therefore it should not be written at the end as an afterthought. Early drafts will be useful to assist pre-application discussions.
