Wind Turbines

The government is considering changing the law to allow to allow wind turbines without planning permission under some circumstances but this review has yet to be completed. As it stands any turbine erected on the roof or side of a dwellinghouse will require planning permission however, if you are erecting a wind turbine in your garden planning permission may not be required. In order to clarify if permission will be required please send details of the height and location of the proposed turbine.

Due to the weight of the equipment, and the fact that it is likely to be attached directly to the building, it may need an application for Building Regulations as it is a 'structure'. If it is not attached to the building, then Part P(PDF 292kb) (an electrical installation)  would apply,  it may require an application for the structure itself.

For more information regarding Building Regulations please contact the Building Control Department on Telephone: 01249 706535.
