A plastic bag takes around 500 years to decompose. Why not re-use plastic carrier bags when you do your food shopping? Some supermarkets will give you money off if you take your own bags. You can also buy fabric shopping bags from most supermarkets that will last for years.
Instead of throwing away old clothes, why not take them to a charity shop and help raise money for your favourite charity? Or you can take clothes to your local recycling centre with a textile bin. Clothes that can be re-used are sent to the Third World and the rest turned into industrial cleaning cloths.
