Choice Based Lettings

Changes to the Housing Register

Choice Based Lettings (CBL) is a new method of allocating social housing which is being rolled out across the county of Wiltshire. The Government would like all local authorities and housing associations to have a CBL scheme in place by 2010. The Government is also encouraging local authorities to establish sub-regional schemes, which will cross local authority boundaries. In Wiltshire the scheme will include North Wiltshire, Kennet, West Wiltshire and Salisbury district councils.

CBL allows landlords to advertise their available homes and customers are asked to express an interest in them, this is referred to as bidding.

CBL will provide a more transparent way of letting homes and will give customers more say in where they are housed and more information about available homes. Read our frequently asked questions to help you understand what it means for you.

Consultation Events

A series of consultation events were held across the county in early August 2007. Around 200 people attended these events, which gave everyone the opportunity to find out more about Choice Based Lettings in Wiltshire and to let us know what they thought of the proposed new scheme. Feedback from these consultation events will be available shortly.
