How to apply

You will need to fill in a housing needs register application form which can be obtained from either Westlea Housing Association itself or the District Council offices in Monkton Park, Chippenham. Please fill in the form as fully as possible. (If you are going to have a joint tenancy with your partner when you are rehoused, please tick the box showing that you want a joint application). Once completed take the form to the Westlea Housing Association office, or send it to the address given at the end of the application form.

If you have any difficulties with the form, please call into the office, or phone Westlea on 01249 465465 for assistance.

On receipt of your application form it is entered on to the computerised housing register system, which Westlea use to allocate their vacant properties. They will then write to you to confirm your registration number and the number of points you have been awarded and where you are on the list. At present they allocate properties to those highest on the list. If you do not receive this letter within four weeks of returning the application, please call into Westlea office or contact them on 01249 465465.

Pre-Tenancy Services staff at Westlea aim to visit you at home before offering accommodation. If you ask for a personal visit, staff will be happy to oblige, either in your own home or at another address if this is necessary.

If the circumstances of anyone in your household change, for example, if you change your address, you should let Westlea know. if you do not, it may affect the time you have to wait to be rehoused. Once a year; Westlea will send a review letter asking if you want to stay on the housing needs register. If you do not reply, the Pre-Tenancy Services team will assume that you no longer want to be rehoused and we will remove your name from the register.

Medical Problems or Assistance

If you or any member of your household have any medical problems, or disabilities, you should show this on the application form. You will then be sent a medical assessment form. Westlea may also contact your GP, a specialist or social services if they are giving you support and will also arrange for you to be visited at your present home by a Housing Officer. Westlea can award up to 15 medical points, but will only give these if the medical condition or disability is to do with your present housing situation, and could be helped by rehousing.

Tip

When filling in the form, to give yourself the best chance of moving quickly you should keep your choices of area and the type of property as broad as possible. Try not to limit your options by picking only one area where you would live (unless you have specific needs like a medical condition or need to be somewhere specific for support needs) as this will reduce your chance of moving quickly.
