Housing Needs Register

North Wiltshire District Council's housing needs register is a list of households (individuals, or groups of people living together as a family) who are looking for affordable housing. Westlea Housing Association is the largest social landlord in the District and manages the housing needs register on behalf of the Council. Please note: people are automatically added to Westlea's own housing list if those people have filled in a housing needs register application form.

The register allows Westlea to decide which households are in greatest need of a move to more suitable housing. They do this by awarding points according to people's current housing circumstances. They will put forward those households in greatest housing need to social landlords such as Housing Associations for rehousing. The register is not a waiting list and due to a shortage of properties in the District, most people will have to wait a long time and many who do not have priority may never be put forward and rehoused from the register.

Although most lettings by Housing Associations in the District depend on who Westlea put forward, the housing needs register is not the only list the Associations refer to when properties are ready to be let. Some Housing Associations may also choose tenants from their transfer lists or their own housing priority lists, so it is also worth applying for housing with a particular Housing Association that you might be interested in. A small number of lettings may also be awarded to people applying from outside the District.

How do I get on the Register?

A second purpose of the housing needs register is to collect invaluable information and help us to build up a picture of housing need in the District. This then enables us to use our limited resources effectively. Even if you think your household has little chance of being rehoused through the housing needs register, you should still fill in an application form.

Westlea will treat your application details confidentially and only use personal information to assess and maintain your application for housing. You have the right to check your personal details once they have dealt with your application.
