Decent Homes Grant
Decent Homes Grants are available to help vulnerable households bring their homes up to the decent homes standard set by the Government.
A decent home is one which is wind and weather tight, warm and has modern facilities.
What is a Decent Homes Grant?
To meet the decent homes standard a property must:
- be in a reasonable state of repair
- have reasonably modern facilities
- provide a reasonable degree of thermal comfort
If you think your property does not meet this standard then you may be eligible for a Decent Homes Grant.
The maximum grant payable is £10,000.
These are discretionary grants provided by North Wiltshire District Council.
Who is eligible for a Decent Homes Grant?
You can apply for a grant if you are:
- an owner of a property
- or a tenant with a lease agreement specifying responsibility for the required works
This type of grant is means tested.
You may be eligible if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- Housing Benfits
- Council Tax Benefit
- Income Support
- Income based Job Seekers Allowance
- Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
- War Disablement Pension
- Working Tax Credit which includes a disability element where the entitled person has a relevant annual income of less than £15,050
- Child Tax credit where the entitled person has a relevant annual income of £15,050
- Pension Credit

Grant conditions apply – should you move house within the term of the grant conditions then the grant may be repayable.
