Access to Countryside

North Wiltshire has many footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes offering many recreational opportunities.

The North Wiltshire Rivers Route, part of the National Cycle Network, runs through the District from near Avebury to lacock and beyond and has a number of extraordinary bridges along its route.

The Council has produced a series of maps showing suitable walking and cycling routes around and between the towns of the District.

There are a number of rambler groups who undertake maintenance work on the footpaths in the District.  The Cricklade Footpaths Group is one such group and are also working on producing a set of self-guided walks leaflets.  For further information contact Mike Hasted on 01249 706489.

North Wiltshire contains the North Wiltshire River Routes which run through Chippenham, Calne and Corsham.

The Council provides Walk It packs to promote walking in North Wiltshire.

Black Dog Bridge in Calne has been restored by the council.
