One Council for Wiltshire gets the go ahead

The Government has announced that Wiltshire County Council's bid for unitary status has been successful.

The plan would mean all four district councils and Wiltshire County Council would amalgamate into one new council, providing services to communities across the county.

However, there has been opposition to the plan to create the new Unitary Authority. Salisbury, West Wiltshire and Kennet District Councils are seeking a judicial review of the decision.

Councillors at North Wiltshire District Council have voted not to support the three other District Councils seeking a judicial review.
