Fly Posting
Fly posting relations to the unauthorised posting of posters, advertisements etc.
Fly posting is an offence under section 224(3) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. Illegal advertisers can be fined up to £2,500 on conviction for this offence, and in the case of a continuing offence, £100 per day after a conviction. It is also an offence under the Highways Act 1980 to display an advertisement in contravention of regulations.
Fly posting is the posting of stickers, posters and other advertising without the consent of the owner of the property. Those responsible can be prosecuted through the magistrate’s courts.
The Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003 also allows authorised personnel to issue Fixed Penalty Notices for fly posting. These illegal advertisements can be removed by the Council without notice.
